Le sigh. Coffee District (325 NE 2nd Ave) is the kind of place that had to be in Delray, isn’t it? Of course it is. An artsy café with simultaneous hippie and modernist pretensions, good coffee, lovely paninis, a quirky wine list, over 80 microbrews, and nightly performance art? Shit, you wouldn’t find a place like that in Fort Lauderdale, would you? You know why? Delray is trying to steal you.

Very soon, every halfway interesting person in SoFla will call Delray their home. Even now the city is trying to lure away our gay population. For the foreseeable future, every Tuesday night will find SoFla’s biggest gay networking group, Venture Out, claiming Coffee District for themselves from 7 p.m. to 10. There will be DJs, lots of beer, good conversation with young members of the Creative Class, and much appreciative gazing at the District’s on-display modern art. A generally civilized good time will be had by all, especially those from Hollywood/Dania/Fort Lauderdale/Pompano/etc. Just don’t come crawling back to us when Broward is cool again.
