Look to the Sky

Not even rush hour could dissuade Alex Heria from pulling over and taking pictures of brilliant landscapes hugged by freeway ramps. He’s an award-winning local photographer who fixes his lens on the skies, roads, cities, and human beings in South Florida.

“Alex Heria: Photographic Works 2000-2008” is open today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood (1650 Harrison St., Hollywood). The exhibit’s main showpiece is an enormous blue sky exploding with sunrays and billowing cumulous clouds; the photo looks like a billboard for Heaven. Also on display are Heria’s photographs of landscapes and objects in nature, which, by dint of double exposure, come out looking like impressionist paintings or mellow LSD hallucinations. It runs till October 5th. Tickets cost $7 or less. Call 954-921-3274, or visit www.artandculturecenter.org.
Sept. 17-Oct. 5, 2008
