What would you North Miami residents be without the Museum of Contemporary Art (770 NE 125 St., N. Miami)? Bored, probably. The sacred space has filled your summer months with captivating workshops, loads of rock ’n’ roll, and film festivals — all on the cheap. You should really say thank you — well, after you take advantage of one more fabulous event.

This evening, Grammy-nominated percussionist Sammy Figueroa and his cadre of international session stars, Latin Jazz Explosion, will serenade you with jazz, sweet jazz. The group’s sound is as diverse as its players; they’ve trickled into South Florida from Cuba, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and other dreamily warm locales. Dancing dizzily between mambo beats, standards, and free-for-all sonic eruptions, Sammy and his boys will remind you why you stay put during hurricane season. After all, where else can you wile away a steamy evening with tropical jazz and dancing under the stars for free? If you want to check out MOCA’s brand new exhibition “Dark Continents” while you’re there, it’s only $5. Visit www.mocanomi.org.
