The Cheese Weaz

Just Shore-ing up is half the battle.

If you sat down with a pen and paper and tried to come up with your top 10 favorite comedians of all time, there is a good chance Pauly Shore would not be on that list. Let’s face it — “the Weasel” made us laugh for the allotted 15 minutes back in the ΄90s, what with his numerous MTV spring break appearances and that cave man movie with Brendan Fraser (now a TNT “new classic”). But eventually, Shore’s comedy became about as enjoyable as listening to a Right Said Fred record.

Despite disappearing from pop culture for some time, Shore has been making a comeback. Using his own irrelevance as a premise, he recently directed the semi-autobiographical Pauly Shore is Dead, and has launched a stand-up tour promoting his new sketch comedy film, Natural Born Komics. It turns out Shore seems more comfortable with audiences laughing at him than with him. Well aware of his past persona, he even promises a “weasel-free” stand-up routine when he shows up at the Fort Lauderdale Improv (5700 Seminole Way, Hollywood) this Friday through Saturday. Tickets cost $26.50 Visit www.improvftl.com for show times.
