The Real Sunday Ticket

OK, we’ve got to vent about something right quick: This two-broadcast-NFL-games-per-Sunday-afternoon bullshit has got to go. Thanks to boneheaded programming decisions, when a Dolphins game is on CBS, we South Floridians get nothing on Fox. And when a game is on Fox afterwards, CBS usually switches to golf or tennis. Having no choice in what to watch on a Sunday is absurd, and it all has to do with the greedy NFL selling more of its outrageously priced, DirecTV exclusive Sunday Ticket, now just $300 for the season. Someone seriously needs to file an antitrust suit on behalf of American consumers. (Where’s Arlen Specter when you need him?) But until then, might we suggest you go out to watch games on Sunday, perhaps at über-sports grille Champps Americana(6401 N. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale)?

Let’s face it, almost every bar in the area has the Ticket showing on Sundays, but Champps is the only bar we know where the wait staff will ask you which games you want to see and then triangulate a seat in the middle of their wall o’ screens where you can best view them all. They’ll also serve you a wide selection of import and domestic beer and good food that’s a notch above the stuff served at most divey sports holes. And if you call in advance, you can sign up for their Sunday Ticket: A reservation for a seat in view of your favorite team; a service that costs you nothing, to boot. Take that, NFL. Call 954-491-9335.
Sundays. Starts: Sept. 21. Continues through Dec. 28, 2008
