I am a cam girl and I am extremely professional. I work from the safety of my bedroom and honestly I tried to find a job when I lost everything, I couldn't do it in enough time to pay my bills and Unemployment is a joke!.. Sorry everyone but this is my career along with many more like me

Groovychicksoph 09/13/2011 11:32:00 PM
I work in a country where brothels are legal. I had other options but I simply wanted more money. The vast majority of us are not victims, we just like money and have no qualms with the concept of having sex in exchange for money. In fact the only prostitutes I would consider victims are the street walkers at the mercy of pimps and addiction, which is illegal here. I work in a legal brothel where safety regulations are strict and the environment professional. For every bad client I have at least 10 good clients, from all walks of life. A month into my job and I've already organised a 6 month overseas holiday for next year. It's a shame these girls are working in a country where prostitution is illegal, which means their safety cannot be guaranteed (like Sophia for example). I'm not sure what I'm trying to prove with this comment, just providing a little insight. I will say this, the only time I feel truly degraded in my profession is when I am labelled a victim, like I'm too dumb to know any better. By the way, if you wanted to go on a date with me you would be charged at least $500 an hour for a minimum of two hours, I didn't set that price, my brothel/agency did. In fact I thought you proposing a free date to these girls was quite audacious. Great article.

Read your column briefly, but had question. What happens when a girl who has lost EVERYTHING. She has lost her job; And day by day, she is trying tenaciously to find a job (calling recruiters). It gets worse each and every day. Every day is more and more sescouraging. Then you find that your life savings if depleated from 74,000 to 13,000 in one week. Everything you have saved for. Every thing you saved for every day to - is gone.
And the unemployment check is not enough to cover even your rent. Meanwhile, you had to wait 3 months after your layoff to even get the first check to you because of a glitch in the system.
What do you do? Hell, I'd prostitute myself. You're damn right on that one!

Really interesting. I have read your whole article two times. I like the most your ends.. Today's, we can seen that most of the couples are gone for freaky bed on their first date.

Look, girlfiend experience was an accident of typing, but there is an article called Meet Captain Howdy - so maybe it was not so far off the mark. Look, I've read some reviews of The Real Girlfriend )but not the article) .... and one of the responses is that we want to know what actually happens. Bluntly, it is infinitely variable. Sometimes it is very, very good and sometimes it is Captain Howdy .... read it at:

Great piece! And for those who don't "Get it", you must be new here, this is real journalism, writing for teh sake of informing teh reader about the characters who surround the reader everyday, in every town. Mooney took these girls on dates, and gave us an idea of what it would be like to "visit" an escort. He went further by detailing his "dates" with several, he gave us insight into who they say they are, what they say about their dreams, their motivations to do their jobs, and more. This is not fluff and it is not world affairs, or national news but it is an article about people who perform the oldest profession. I'd not have had teh experience of hearing from these women had Mooney not enlightened me to it. For that, Michael, I thank you sir. Good work.

They are also human too.....just like us.....they can be a friend or enemy just also like us.....they can be a wise and holy but also a crime like us too.....they have time of birth and death like people around the globe...just like us.....Indeed we can not eradicate the prostitution, for it is like eradicating humankind coz they are everywhere.......but above all things I 'll see them as my neighborhood, trying to do samething to the lazzaroni around me.....Congratulations for giving them a chance to be a friend.....God is watching us.....conveying wishes from Indonesia....

Interesting that half the comments here bash this article for not being insightful or have a deeper meaning, but why not just enjoy the article for what it is- a fascinating insight on hookers lives beyond the general perception. This was a unique and entertaining read, very well written.

Well done and well put!

I enjoyed the article. It doesn't have to have a point. It's a story. If anything, it humanizes the women. Certainly nothing wrong with that.

I'm going straight on Craigslist. See if I can find one of these broads who look nothing like their picture.
Catch some disease. ...and write a story about it all with no real ending.
That was lame. Slightly entertaining, but never made any real points or observations that we couldn't imagine before reading it.
-
Dean Esmay 12/13/2008 9:31:00 PM
Great article. Ending a little weak, but great otherwise. A look into the real people living this life is all the story is, and that's all it should be.
What is life like as a paid escort? Now you know.

James Hinds 09/24/2008 2:15:00 AM
They may be hookers -- selling false intimacy for dollars. Some might say selling something that is beyond price.
But still, they evoke a strong sense of compassion in me: seeing through a hardened exterior to that real human that is stuck in her role.
I think it is a little like the young girl falling for 'the bad boy' and saying: "My parents just don't see him the way I do"
-

Hookers suck. No pun intended.

I should say that this is impressive. mostly we have seen certain people in classes, high versus low ones and start to make some prejudice.
reading this I think I got the point, even a prostitute is a human, really has real heart, remembers some nostalgia in life, wants to be acknowledged as a person, not as a toy.
I just wish someone could redeem her out of such kind of job and to give her a proper life where she could become herself, not living the gloomy prostitute life any longer. I guess she (and other ones) might have such hope deep inside her heart, but she (and those ones) just couldn't speak it out.
-
Frank 09/21/2008 10:57:00 PM
If you told me this morning that I would read a story about a guy who dates prostitutes and I'd actually email it to all of my friends with the subject: GENIUS WRITING I never would have believed you. Who is this guy and why haven't I heard of him before? It sounds stupid, but these are the kinds of stories that change the world and how people look at other people. Congrats!
-

I really liked this article. The author writes well. Keep up the interesting stories.
-
hanis21 09/21/2008 6:24:00 AM
dont you guys get it ?
its all about the fact that even though they are still prostitutes they too are still human - they to have ambitions. the difference between them and everyone else is either they have been in some sort of situation or forced in a corner and they only do this to help them get out of the situation - all of them have some goals in their lives. if you read carefully none of them 'do this for fun'.
its a good article- i would like to see what you do next.

-
Zach 09/20/2008 6:59:00 PM
An introspective look at a world that few people will ever get to see.
I can't say i was surprised much by the lives of these prostitutes but such a candid look at them without all the manufactured drama of a major 24 hours news network was very refreshing.
I think the author took just the right approach to the story and I really enjoyed reading it.
-
Tina 09/20/2008 6:26:00 PM
Well good thing about this is people get to see other facet of prostitute. I have gone on similar date with people and all they want is to be with you and hug you. No sex. It means so much to us.

This journalism at its best form. Not some mass media bs from cnn and time.
-
john 09/20/2008 5:48:00 PM
I think of two things when I read this wonderfully written article.
1. As a man who has slept with many prostitutes, I think that next time, I will simply take them out on dates, like this author. The best part of seeing a prostitute is the female companionship.
2. I cannot believe that American girls are driven to prostitution simply to pay for education - a privellige that billions of people around the world enjoy without having to f*ck strangers. America is SICK.

Stop acting like you did these girls a favor by paying them when they didn't have to fuck you. This article is basically saying, "Hey, I know you're all worthless whores, but I'm REALLY INTERESTED IN YOU!!" You are no better than them. They are no better than you.
-

The metaphor in the end wasn't necessary; why suggest prostitutes will never get out? The 6 pages were entertaining to read through, though.
-
Timbo tones 09/20/2008 9:46:00 AM
there's no point to this story. its just a recounting of events. not everything is a hollywood movie with the same old story albeit different variables. this is life. so many people dont understand it yet. you do what you want. you live in the consequences. and this is another perspective that most would never have seen before.
there's no point, no message, other than what you get from it yourself.
read, learn and enjoy.
thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences, author; different as they may be.

You should make a memoir of this. I agree with another comment that said do this in a big city with more women. Tighten your style a bit, and you'll be good to go.
-
bob 09/20/2008 4:39:00 AM
Walking down the streets of Amsterdam, watching the prostitutes stare down and try to seduce the passing tourists into customers, I couldn't help but wonder who these girls were and what their story was. I worry sometimes about my ex girlfriend and other friends of mine that are girls. They will be leaving college soon with enormous debt, a lack of morals, a lack of self-respect, and I'm scared to hear in a few years that they've gone into porn or prostitution. It would be so sad. Its just a terrible idea to think of someone you love doing something so degrading, dangerous, and destructive all for money. We should make schools affordable so that our girls of America don't have to turn to illegal prostitution to pay of their college debts. Obama '08! Its not socialism. Its trying to make the country the safest and best place it can possibly be. We have the power to keep some of these women off the streets.
-
Frank the Tank 09/20/2008 4:13:00 AM
My dad told me prostitutes were myths, like the Easter Bunny and Santa. Everytime I thought I saw one walking towards his bedroom he would scream at me that I was dreaming and to go eat some mud in the yard. All in all an entertaining read.

-
Jim 09/20/2008 2:59:00 AM
You know, the story did need more legs. I think that this would probably make a great book. Go to a city like New York, go on dates with a lot of prostitutes, like 200, and go to multiple cities. Go on three, four, five dates with some of the same ones. Then take the best stories, and write about those. Get a good editor, and bang, you're book is featured on Yahoo news. Bad credit, yeah, you're right, it sounded like a boring date, and was also boring to read about. It'll take some money, but sell the idea to a publisher, and get them to front it. Heck, if you don't do it, maybe I will out here in London. All the best, and good luck.

Wow - i felt like i was reading a middle school essay.
I agree with the above, it seemed like it had legs in the beginning. I was wrong, each story was the same.
I feel like you thought up this "great" symbolism with the claw-game machine, and wrote the story after.
-
patrick 09/20/2008 2:10:00 AM
well written. in reading, you expect a resolution or some deeper revelation, but instead you feel like you spent time and money on cheap thrills and fast women. cant help but feel empty and a little cheated. cool.
-
Tony 09/20/2008 2:02:00 AM
Uhhhhh, I suspect taking a prostitute on a date is like taking any other woman on a date...hookers aren't aliens...they are women who straightforwardly sell sex on occasion...

Yeah, Right 09/20/2008 1:26:00 AM
Actually, this was fascinating. Reminds me of going out of my way to speak with people on the street that others think are just crazy bums. Actually engaging them with normal conversation, instead of shying away or thumbing your nose up at them. The expressions on their faces are so alive and beautiful when you turn a blind eye to their current condition and treat them like what they are - human, just like you. I'm not saying it can't backfire sometimes, LOL, but you have to take it all in stride with a smile on your face and love in your heart. There is always a fascinating story there that can tell you more about YOURSELF than you want to admit.
-
Dzaztr 09/20/2008 1:26:00 AM
Great read. Sometimes we forget that everyone has a story. While waiting for someone I met the night before in Miami a pretty hooker came up to me. Asked if I wanted a good time. before you know it people thought that I was her pimp and asking me how much. Since I heard her price I would tell them. She joked with me and ended up spending a good 45 minutes talking to her. Lost her job when her bf stabbed. She went "looney tunes" I guess. At the end she said she enjoyed the talk and would love to spend the night with me and assured me I wouldnt have to pay her a dime since I gave her something worth more, attention. The girl showed up right then and there and I said goodbye. She first walked past me a hooker and waved goodbye as a person.
-
Garig 09/20/2008 1:24:00 AM
I've always thought about doing something like that. The stories a prostitute would have, not just about sex or weird customers, but just life would be interesting to read. Sorta like the collective works and experiences of call-girls.
Watch some douche try and steal my idea.
-
Pete 09/20/2008 1:24:00 AM
An interesting 10 minute read... journalism can be poignant too - my only qualm is I'm not sure what to feel at the end.
-
Average Joe 09/20/2008 1:23:00 AM
I really liked the story. No, it's not hard hitting journalism, but it kept me amused and provided some information into their world as well. I'd actually like to read a part 2.

Chris 09/20/2008 1:18:00 AM
I really enjoyed this story. I think that its trying to make the point that we are all human no matter how looked down upon we are. If a prostitute can find solace in winning a stuffed lion, I think humanity still has hope :)
-
melstrom 09/20/2008 1:09:00 AM
Good article, very filled with compassion.
-
Josh Harper 09/20/2008 1:08:00 AM
I really enjoyed this story. Too often people look down on others who they perceive to be inferior, such as the homeless, prostitutes, the mentally handicapped, criminals, really the list is endless. People forget that underneath that shiny exterior, the coating of superficiality, lies a person with dreams, a heart, a voice. Thank you for letting their story be heard.
Just remember, every person out there is someone's child. Essentially, we human beings are all scared little children looking for comfort from anything.

Oh, goodness, this didn't talk about politics or base around something exceptionally prevalent in modern culture! Stop being stuck-up fools and read this for entertainment, to learn about something you are lucky enough to not have to endure. This is journalism, just not the particular brand your single-minds are used to reading.
This was very entertaining to read, regardless of whether it talked about John McCain or not. Very nice work, I really enjoyed it.
-
David 09/20/2008 1:03:00 AM
interesting read, for the most part it sounds like regular dates with Prosts don't sound as much fun as you'd think it would be.
But then again, if you're lonely enough I suppose you'll do anything for companionship.
