More About

There used to be a time when South Florida was a haven for good, ol'-fashioned rock 'n' roll, not just old-timey stuff that was stuck in a time warp. Rootsy Americana bands could make a living here, and crowds appreciated them for their efforts. Fort Lauderdale's Hep Cat Boo Daddies, which formed in 1998, showed up unfortunately at the tail end of that era, but their playing style — which lead singer Joel DaSilva describes as "American rock 'n' roll with balls, heart, and soul" — is definitely a throwback of sorts. They've been playing together for a decade, and this weekend, they're having a ten-year anniversary blowout bash at the Hollywood Playhouse to celebrate that milestone in grand fashion. They'll be recording a Live CD and a concert DVD as well, so fans of the band definitely need to come out and support the gang. And if you've never heard of the band before, try to picture Johnny Cash meeting AC/DC on stage at a Texas whorehouse and asking John Lee Hooker to sit in with them and you've got an idea of the uptempo bluesy twang — and roadhouse party — that the Boo Daddies love to create.
