Impressive

You’re not famous until Frank Caliendo impersonates you.

Aside from Harriet Miers and bodybag manufacturers, probably no one else in America has seen their fortunes rise faster with Dubya’s reign than comedian Frank Caliendo, who does a ripping impression of the Prez. When Caliendo spoofed Bush on David Letterman, the host asked him whether it bothered him that his approval rating was only 36 percent. “Well, Dave, that’s still more than half,” Caliendo/Bush replied. Caliendo continues to channel the cocksure, oblivious, relevant Bush of yesteryear, perhaps because he, like his target, finds himself suddenly ruling the world. Caliendo struck out from MadTV to turn his attention to Frank TV, on which he’ll send up damn near anyone. His John Madden, Bill Clinton, and Charles Barkley are his bread and butter, but some of his more curious turns — like playing the full cast of Seinfeld for one sketch — are at least as memorable. Sure, a guy who pretends to be so many different people (his Wikipedia page lists more than 100 impersonations) probably has a black hole where his soul ought to be. But anyone who’ll morph into Larry Flynt, Clint Eastwood, and Miss Piggy for a laugh deserves points for chutzpahe. Catch Caliendo at 7:30 p.m. at the Kravis Center (701 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach). Tickets run $41.75 or $75 a pop. Call 954-523-3309, or visit ticketmaster.com.
