Floridas sunny weather and blue skies dont really correlate with Edgar Allen Poes gloomy writing. Yet Florida continues to produce a consistent source of dark artists, be it the retired death metal scene of Tampa, or the Neo-Goth acts of Miami. The sunshine isnt brightening these corners any time soon.
The Dark Romantics (which are named after Poes literary sub-genre) are a Lakeland-based group that writes catchy-but-mysterious transcendental rock and roll. Touring off the recently released Heartbreaker, Eric Collins and his crew sing about love, pain, and well
heartbreak. Theyve won critical acclaim and comparisons to some of the best indie acts in the business. Think of them as the antithesis of the New Pornographers. Catch this up-and-coming act at 8 tonight at Respectable Street (518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach). Poe would totally be there, if he didnt die in 1849. Tickets cost $6. Visit respectablestreet.com.
