A Spider’s Luck

They say there is a great story behind every great band, and The Pink Spiders founding member, Matt Friction, definitely has one to tell after a year full of chaos and calamity. Upon building a decent radio buzz, the original three-piece from Nashville lost everything when their tour bus caught fire in early March. If loosing all their possessions wasn’t upsetting enough, two of the original members announced their departure from the band this summer, claiming royalty fraud. The group’s record contract with Geffen was over, and Friction was left alone to pick up the pieces.

Being forced to start from scratch, Friction realized he still had a new album (recorded before all the troubles) to promote. He reformed the Pink Spiders into a four-piece and began touring on the self-released album, Sweat it Out.

Despite the craziness, the Spiders will be bringing their Weezer-on-steroids sound to Respectable Street on Saturday (518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach). With their recent luck, it may be wise to catch them before the band spontaneously combusts from their high energy live show. Tickets cost $10 in advance, $12 at the door, which open at 7 tonight.
