Hipster glitterati convene for the Annual ’80s Prom

It’s official. The ’80s revival is just about over. It has almost come to that awkward tipping point where old and laughably uncool has met edgy and ironic and is rapidly heading towards laughably uncool again. Blame it on Lindsay Lohan and her line of leggings, or the ubiquitous use of the auto-tune vocal effects that the Zapp Band popularized back in the day. Either way you cut it, Lauren “Lolo” Reskin and the Sweat Records crew were way ahead of the curve six years ago when they started throwing the Annual ’80s Prom.

Back then, finding the perfect pair of gold lame stirrup pants wasn’t as easy as it is now. Today, you can head to Urban Outfitters, Goodwill, Miami Twice, Target, or Forever 21 and get your ensemble together in no time. Swing by Walgreens for some sparkly Aqua Net, and you’re good to go! This year’s prom will be held at The Vagabond (30 NE 14th St., Miami), and the five-dollar prom punch will be as potent as ever.

Outereach will hit the stage at midnight and play a set of ’80s covers, DJs Ray Milian and Carlos Llanos will be keeping the dance floor hot and sweaty with nonstop yuppie-era hits, and in the garden, VJ Chris Video will be entertaining the masses with classic music videos, movie clips, and video games. Commemorate the occasion with Jipsy (AKA Nefarious Girl) and her prom photo booth. Don’t forget your wrist corsage. Doors open at 9 p.m., and there’s a $10 cover charge.
