The Earth: One Hot Mess
It’s official: We’ve managed to damage all that is fundamentally good about Earth. From poisoning the water supplies with oil spills and tanker barges, to corrupting the atmosphere with our smoggy, toxic, emissions — we’ve worked hard to make the environment this unlivable. Yeah, way to go us.
The only hope for redemption to our sinful lives of luxury lies in the ankle-biters, the rug rats, and even the wee ones. After all, someone’s going to have to clean this mess up before Fort Lauderdale becomes a surf break for folks in Weston. Get them involved in the world’s doom and allow them to grasp the gravity of things like melting polar ice caps at the “Climate Change Exhibit,” running through January 11 at the Museum of Discovery and Science (401 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale).
This interactive, educational showing is less Nostradamus and more Disney, with narration by happy white cartoon sheep that appear to be on freelance from a Serta commercial. The sheep give pointers on how to make the world better while kids experiment with climate change-related projects. It’s inspirational and motivational, but if you really want to drive the message home, don’t drive there in the SUV; take the bus.
