Sechew Powell is what they call in the boxing world a "beautiful puncher". He can defeat his opponents with technique and skill, picking apart the defenses of less experienced, over-eager boxers who, when the time is right, will discover the meaning of his right hook. He can also just beat the shit of people, and is capable of delivering a knock out blow with either hand. After a controversial loss last year, Powell is back on track to prepare for a title challenge. He'll be looking to dispense with veteran 33-year-old fighter Jose Arosemena tonight, during Hard Knocks at the Hard Rock, a Warrior's Boxing event presented at (where else?) Hard Rock Live.
Edison Miranda is also on the ticket. He has a Rocky-esque, come-from-nothin' story that began in Buenaventura, Colombia, where he came up from street life to become an amateur national champion and Olympic bronze medallist. He has a reputation as a hard-punching slugger, but a tendency for sloppy defense has cost him in the past.
The fights start at 7:30 p.m. at Hard Rock Live, inside Seminole Paradise at One Seminole Way in Hollywood. Tickets range from $22 to $152, and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com.
