Small Band, Big Sound

Miami based female indie duo Steph Taylor and the State Of are rockin’ the two-story house-turned-restaurant/pub DaDa Friday night at 11. Expect to see two girls sitting side-by-side, framed by the rather large instruments they play, piano and drums. But don't expect the percussive equivalent of an acoustic show — these two make a lot of noise with what they've got. "People who see us are often surprised by what two people can do with a drum set and a piano," says the band’s lead singer Steph Taylor. "We'll fool you into thinking you're hearing a four piece band."

The duo's smoky soulful voices and tenacious approach to their instruments create a sound that is somewhere between Tori Amos and Björk. STatSO is touring to showcase songs from its upcoming album, Day Of Abandon, which marries drum and bass beats with melodic piano movements and guitar-driven rock.

Hear more tonight at DaDa, located at 52 N. Swinton Ave. in Delray Beach. The show is free. Call 561-330-DADA, or visit stephtaylor.com.
