Viva La Vérité!

Truth in television and film is not a new concept. Agent Fox Mulder nearly drove himself crazy, insisting “The truth is out there” in the X-Files television show and movies. Comedy Central personality Stephen Colbert is so insistent on finding the truth that he has coined his own phrase for it: “truthiness.” Enter Cinéma Vérité (literally, “Cinema of Truth”). Tonight, the monthly series will be discussing the 2001 French film, Amélie. In the cult film, cutesy Amélie Poulain (Audrey Tautou) spends much of her time searching for truth in its purest form. Her goal is to find happiness from the positive experience of helping others.

Cinema Vérité's aim is similar: the program takes a closer look at the ideas and themes of some of our greatest films of all time in an attempt to help others learn more about themselves as individuals and as a society. The interactive discussion is led by Pastor Rick Hunter, and is sponsored by CityChurch Fort Lauderdale. Find your moment of truth tonight at Cinema Paradiso, found at 503 SE 6th St. in Fort Lauderdale. The program starts at 7p.m., and tickets cost $5 at the door. Visit myspace.com/vivalacinema.
