Party AnimalsBy Jamie LaughlinPublished on March 11, 2009 at 12:04amImagine how differently you would view animal rights if your pets could hold a conversation. They would shudder and sigh disapprovingly as you explained stuff like foie gras, or the dairy and poultry industry. You would feel ashamed of your barbaric blood lust. Since they cannot throw their two cents in on these, and other, hot button topics, we have the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida - an organization based on educating the public on issues like laboratory testing, greyhound racing, treatment of circus animals, as well as those being farmed for food. Carrying out a mission as virtuous as ARFFs doesnt just happen, it takes organization, educators, and outreach specialists oh yeah, and cash. Fortunately those do-gooders arent stuffy old activists; they know how to throw a party. This years ARFF 20th Anniversary Gala is the biggest, fanciest, and most star-studded event of the charity season, emceed by none other than famed former game show host, lady kisser, and vegetarian, Bob Barker. Also, actress and sweater puppy smuggler, Pamela Anderson, is attending as the Guest of Honor. Rub elbows with them, as well as with political big shots, over a delectable, guilt-free dinner choreographed by Fort Lauderdales own Sublime Restaurant at this swanky, black tie optional affair. If youre still on the fence, rest assured theres an open bar, plenty of networking opportunities, and a silent auction filled with celebrity-worthy prizes. Your pets will be so proud of you. Help bring change in animal rights while shaking your tail feathers at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Broward County Convention Centers Floridian Ballroom, located at 1950 Eisenhower Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $250; get them at arff.org, or by calling 954-927-ARFF.
