Gardens Gone Geek

The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens have always been a great place to bring a date. The quiet walkways, shimmering waterfalls, and manicured Bonsai trees form a romantic atmosphere unlike anything else in South Florida. So it’s safe to say if you’re a single geek like the rest of us, you’ve probably never stepped foot inside the botanical gardens to appreciate them.

That may change, when the 30th Annual Hatsume Fair takes place this Saturday and Sunday. Besides the awesome sounds of large taiko drums and the sweet tastes of handmade Japanese candy, the festival is now becoming "anime-friendly." That’s right; you’ll be able to explore the luscious grounds in-between screenings of anime flicks, and even be encouraged to dress up in your favorite homemade cosplay outfit for prizes. Now you too can experience what makes these happy loving couples flock here on a daily basis.

Don’t forget to pick up your recently used Watchmen costume from the cleaners on the way to 4000 Morikami Park Rd. in Delray Beach. The fair is open between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on both days. Adult tickets cost $10; children are $5. Call 561-495-0233, or visit morikami.org for more info.
Sat., March 21, 11 a.m.; Sun., March 22, 11 a.m., 2009
