You may not need a subway system to get from Himmarshee to Las Olas —in fact you could probably circle the area in stilettos within 20 minutes. But the little hub of bars and clubs that we call “downtown” may be residents’ last front against unfettered, soulless condo development. One organization devoted to ensuring our downtown retains a pulse and spirit of community is the non-profit Riverwalk Trust. Friday, it will host Riverwalk Get Downtown, the biannual outdoor cocktail party located off of Las Olas Blvd. For $25, attendees will get two drink tickets and sample food from 15 local restaurants. Carnivores and herbivores alike can satiate their palates with selections from Briny Riverfront, Big City Tavern, the award-winning Samba Room, and the vegetarian paradise, Sublime.

Get downtown Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the courtyard Plaza at Las Olas Place (333 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). Advanced tickets are available online for $20, or $25 at the door. Stilettos not required. Visit goriverwalk.com, or call 954-468-1541.
