Soft Rockin' Beats

Kyle Crossland's musical style has been compared to Jack Johnson's and John Mayer's. Still interested? He names James Taylor, the Beach Boys and, of course, John Mayer, among his influences. Like Mayer and Johnson, Crossland's music is predictable easy-listening acoustic rock -- though the tempo of the opening tune on his new self-titled EP includes some intriguing hints of early Unwritten Law. Basically, he makes enjoyable, well-crafted tunes that will serve as better background music at a bar than the recycled mainstream pop rock patrons usually have to suffer through. Paul Mitchell is also sending a team of stylists to do hair and makeup. So even if soft alternative doesn't provide the catharsis you so desperately need during tax season or final exams, you'll have great hair and makeup to start the weekend off right. Come check out Crossland's record release party Friday at the MAC building at 8:30 pm.
