Triks Are for Kids

Time to bust out that fish eye lens and shred some pavement: the first ever Trik Flix Action Sports Film Festival is invading the Abacoa Town Center in Jupiter on Saturday. The festival is a celebration of the young, burgeoning action sports filmmakers of South Florida, folks who are looking to make a career out of capturing physics defying maneuvers of all types, be it skateboarding, surfing, BMX, skim boarding, or anything else fit for X Games viewage. Beginning at 5 p.m., Team Pain (the designers of skate courses for the actual X Games) will transform the Abacoa amphitheatre into a mini skate park, where pros from SoFla and beyond will test their skills. The action will continue at 7, when Jacksonville Beach's B.L.O.R.R. will take the stage (they do psychedelic, dreamy electronic rock that's graced more than a few surf films). At 8, the film fest aspect takes over. Trik Flix, in conjunction with the Palm Beach International Film Festival, combed though a heap of short films from budding action sports filmmakers across South Florida; the best of the best will be shown here, with prizes going out to the top judged films. The fest culminates with a screening of Picaresque, a film from pro-surfer turned filmmaker, Mikey DeTemple. Plus, the whole thing is going to be webcasted live, and ESPN will be there conducting interviews and filming. Did we mention it's completely free? Totally. Find Abacoa Town Center at the 1200 block of Main Street in Jupiter. For more information, call 561-568-1114 or visit trikflix.com.
