B.B.B. Kings

There's something about the soul-wrenching sounds of the blues that just necessitates a stiff drink or two. There's also something about a stiff drink or two that just necessitates good barbecue. Good barbecue - shoot, that just makes you pine for blues all over again. If it sounds like circular logic, well, it is, sort of. But it's one equation you can solve easily by heading down to the 2nd Annual Blues Brews & BBQ celebration at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek. Starring in the blues role will be none other than "The Night Tripper" himself, Dr. John, and his band, the Lower 911, fresh off a date at the New Orleans Jazz Festival. In fact, the native Orleaner just grabbed a Grammy for his album The City That Care Forgot, in which he sang a requiem for his post-Katrina hometown. Also hitting the stage will be South Florida's own Heavy Pets, now with the addition of former Way of the Groove bassist, Felix Pastorius. As far as ingestibles are concerned, the Casino will be sporting a selection of over 40 beers from around the world - including selections from Brooklyn Brewery, Modela, and New Orleans fav, Abita - unlimited supplies of which are included in the ticket price (that's $30 in advance at the cashier's stage in the casino, $40 at the door). And, for a nominal fee, you can nosh on summer-style barbecue like smoked brisket with Tootsie Roll BBQ sauce, sassafras pulled pork, and gobs of country-style boiled peanuts.

Just follow your ears - and your stomach - to 5550 NW 40th St. Call 954-977-6700.
