Gay Camp

If the Rick Warrens and Ted Haggards of the world had their way, they'd round up every last gay boy and girl and haul them to hetero camp for conversion into God fearing straights (well, maybe not Haggard; he'd just round up the boys and leave it at that). But what if the tables were turned? What if one Midwestern gay boy had the power to turn everyone in his Podunk town - from the brutish rugby players who pick on him to the small-minded moral authority - into raging queens? That’s the premise of director Tom Gustafson's film, Were the World Mine, a musical comedy that takes a cue from A Midsummer Night's Dream. Timothy is a homosexual high school student in rural America, where his only escape from being a virtual outcast is his vibrant, musical daydreams. When he's cast in a production of Midsummer, Tim develops a real life love potion: a purple pansy that, when sprayed in the face of some unwary straight, turns them gayer than a bathroom stall at the RNC. With a likeminded army of singing, dancing boys at his side, Tim finally has the ability to make his daydreams a reality - but at what cost?
