No Reality-Show Catch Phrases Allowed

Just saying the word “trump,” conjures up an immense amount of imagery, positive and negative. The name has become so synonymous with everything from buildings to beauty pageants that it’s easy to be cynical about its brand power. Last month several cutting edge artists had the chance to express their own opinions on “The Donald’s” American empire when they participated at a charity event hosted at Trump International Golf Club. The dinner and exhibition was a success, but with a price tag around $125 a plate, it was clear that not everyone was able to see this ironic show come to life.

Thankfully, the Armory Art Center will be re-installing and expanding the exhibit. “A Trump in the Dark” features the work of seven emerging artists (Bethany Krull, Nicole Seisler, Carolyn Sickles, Sue Stevens, Dennis Svoronos, Ryan Toth, and Jesse Walp) and will even include a live performance by the local group Zombies! Organize!! Now that sounds like a lot more fun then a stuffy charity dinner, doesn’t it? We’re sure the Donald wouldn’t approve.

If you already went to the dinner and are just coming for seconds, have your driver head toward the Armory Art Center located at 1700 Parker Ave. in West Palm Beach. The opening reception is Friday from 6 to 9 p.m., and the exhibit will run until June 5. There is even an afterparty at Propaganda (6 S. “J” St., Lake Worth) from 9 to midnight for the more adventurous. Call 561-832-1776 for more info.
