Brew-tal

Exemplifying the woeful second act to the Marlins’ quick start this season was their performance against Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, who, until he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Marlins, had sported the worst road ERA in the Major Leagues. At least the guy who broke up the no-no with a double, Cody Ross, proffered this great quote: “You don’t want to be on the lineup card on the inside of a pitcher’s house.” But it still marked the 12th loss in 16 May games for the Marlins.

We knew they’d come slumping back to reality eventually. Contrast them with the Milwaukee Brewers. After gamely pushing the Cubs to the brink in the National League Central last year, the Brew Crew has so far owned the early returns in that division (and swept three games against the Marlins in Milwaukee). The loss of second baseman Rickie Weeks to a bum left wrist felled one of the Brewers’ bigger bats — a shard of hope for a Marlins team that could really use about five more series against the Nationals instead of a three-game set against Milwaukee, beginning Monday at 7:10 p.m. at Landshark Stadium (formerly Dolphin Stadium, 2269 NW 199th St. in Miami Gardens). The cheap seats start at $12. Walk up to the box office or get your seats in advance at florida.marlins.mlb.com, or by calling 954-523-3309.
