Bombs Away

Just when the Marlins look ready to compete for the title of most craptastic team in baseball, whoa, they come back to mere mediocrity by doing what they seem to do best: slapping the pill around the yard. Dan Uggla just hit his 100th career homer, and in fewer games than any previous big-league slugger. A little later, Jeremy Hermida, he of the first career at-bat grand slam, beat the Cardinals on a walk-off dinger. None too shabby, either feat.

Now here come the Orioles — Broward’s other Major League team, by dint of their longstanding Spring Training nest in Ft. Lauderdale. As the O’s scrape the bottom of the American League East, though, it’s unlikely that Lauderdale would claim them any more than Baltimore would. The good news for Marlins fans: The Orioles are useless on the road, losing 21 of 26 away from Baltimore during one stretch this season. See if the Marlins can continue to tee off Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. at Land Shark Stadium (formerly Dolphin Stadium, 2269 NW 199th St., Miami Gardens). Cheap seats run $12. The box office will have plenty, but you can reserve tickets at florida.marlins.mlb.com, or by calling at 954-523-3309.
