The Dub Club

While the ska resurgence that began in the mid-'90s brought renewed interest in the music of the late-'70s/early-'80s U.K. scene, there was a noticeable generation gap between the young upstarts and their supposed influences. Had more bands then sounded like South Florida's Spred the Dub, we might have been spared much of what passed as "ska-punk." Like the name suggests, STD is heavy on the dub and reggae (and like the acronym suggests, quite infectious). It is only fitting that STD opens for the legendary Yellowman this Saturday. Though he's been rocking the mic for the past three-and-a-half decades, the albino dancehall star is back in town to deliver the hits from his huge catalog, which ranges from the sexually explicit to the socially conscious.

The Dub starts at 8 p.m. at Respectable Street, located at 518 Clematis St. in West Palm Beach. Tickets cost $15 to $20. Call 561-832-9999.
Sat., June 27, 8 p.m., 2009
