Welcome to the Dollhouse

If you were an American girl living in the last fifty years, you belonged to one of two groups: The pro-Barbie set, who lauded the Mattel creation for her iconic fashion sense, or the anti-Barbie crowd, who loathed the blonde bombshell for her influence on unrealistic body images. Maybe you were a combination of the two camps, simultaneously applauding Barbie's attempts at careers as like a doctor or a flight attendant but still taking pleasure in giving Barbie botched buzz cuts and microwave tans.

Wherever your loyalty rests, her mantra still rings true, "It's Barbie's World, we just play in it."

See firsthand at the "Barbie's Back and She's 50!" exhibit at the Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture (51 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach). Hundreds of Barbies and accessories from private collections will be on display through October 25. Museum hours are 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission costs $6. Call 561-243-7922, or visit oldschool.org.
