Going Postal

Wow. Do we like this new look for the Postmarks? They were always pretty low-key in the hair/make-up/costume department before, but their new makeover is sharp. They look like mod assassins! Actually, frontwoman Tim looks more than a bit like a brunette Francoise Hardy here. It's appropriate, since the bandmates are avowed Francophiles as well as Anglophiles.

Still, if the band looks slightly more aggressive in this photo, perhaps it fits with the new direction in sound it's taken for its upcoming third full-length. Dubbed Memoirs at the End of the World, the album's due out on Unfiltered Records on August 25, and is said to be markedly darker.

Actually, say their PR-type folks, the album features "ambient textures from dub reggae, horn arrangements from classic soul, and elements of experimentation reminiscent of sounds heard at the birth of electronic music." Hmmm ... interesting. We'll have to wait and see how extreme those influences really are -- and how their most hardcore, twee-or-die fans might react.

Meanwhile, the band is continues its usual heavy touring schedule, playing a string of dates with stellastarr* and Wild Light, and a one-off with Peter, Bjorn, and John at the Social in Orlando on September 3.

But before all that, they're returning to their home turf to play a local show (and we certainly don't want to bring up that debate again). The Postmarks play Propaganda on July 10, and for full details you can visit propagandalw.com.
