It's a Sign

Creating gritty pop art in the spirit of Andy Warhol -- if Warhol wandered the desert and came across rusty gas station signs -- Cuban artist Kadir Lopez Nieves is internationally recognized for transforming symbols from a bygone era into iconic images and vintage art. Bacardi USA and Altima International will sponsor this limited selection from Nieves’s art series Pop Signs as part of an art show at The Whitney Condominium. Nieves won't be attending as he was unable to secure a visa for the event. But Bruce Helander, who's been talking with the artist, was recruited to articulate the artist's vision. Works by Nieves brother, Kelvin, will also be displayed.
