Swapping Swamps

If you are visiting Florida from the city of New Orleans, you have to be a little disappointed. The sub-nuclear weather, crowded beaches, and neon nightlife may impress other city folk, but there is no mistaking that South Florida is missing some of NOLA’s southern hip factor. It’s amazing that artists like the legendary Brian Stoltz even leave their swamp to visit ours at all.

It helps that this Grammy award winning guitarist has a few friends down here, and a bar like Alligator Alley to call home away from home. Stoltz, may have played in New Orleans house band, the Funky Meters, and worked with everyone from Dylan to Paul Simon, but he recorded his latest release (Up All Night) right here in South Florida. Live. At his favorite hole in the wall. His funk-based blues are sure to make the Alley’s award winning gumbo bubble with extra goodness when he returns Friday.

Getting to Alligator Alley isn’t a Big deal; it’s rather easy. Just head to 1321 E. Commercial Blvd. in Oakland Park. Tickets cost $10, and the show starts at 9:30 p.m. Call 954-772-7474 for details, or visit alligatoralleyflorida.com.
