Tablao You Away

Watching professional (or even aspiring) dancers perform can be intoxicating - just look at the popularity of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance and ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. There’s something undeniably sensual in the way dancers move; the flowing of their costumes and the melding of their motions with the music. For a textbook example of these sentiments, look no further than the Flamenco in the Sun Festival. On Friday and Saturday, the Amaturo Theater is hosting Jose Luis Rodriguez - a renowned Flamenco composer and guitarist - and dancer/choreographer Nelida Tirado. On Sunday, Café Cantante wraps up the weekend’s festivities at Parker Playhouse with a Tablao style performance. The Tablao style is not traditionally choreographed; instead it is a sort of “jam session” between the dancers and musicians played out in an intimate setting.
