Tablao You Away

Watching professional (or even aspiring) dancers perform can be intoxicating - just look at the popularity of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance and ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. There’s something undeniably sensual in the way dancers move; the flowing of their costumes and the melding of their motions with the music. For a textbook example of these sentiments, look no further than the Flamenco in the Sun Festival. On Friday and Saturday, the Amaturo Theater is hosting Jose Luis Rodriguez - a renowned Flamenco composer and guitarist - and dancer/choreographer Nelida Tirado. On Sunday, Café Cantante wraps up the weekend’s festivities at Parker Playhouse with a Tablao style performance. The Tablao style is not traditionally choreographed; instead it is a sort of “jam session” between the dancers and musicians played out in an intimate setting. If you’d like to enjoy this combination of entrancing music and hypnotizing dancers, show up at 707 NE Eighth St. in Fort Lauderdale at either 3 or 7 p.m. on Sunday with $30 in hand.
