The Big Finish

Nothing lasts forever. But for those who keep tabs on South Florida’s artistic pulse, it stings a little more when cool local happenings that have maintained some longevity come to an end. Happy Endings, the art event associated with “Wet Paint” and held at Kyoto Sushi Sake Lounge the last Friday of every month, will live up to its name this Friday night at 8. For the last year, local DJ and artist Nico Cassanetti has put the showcase together, recruiting DJs and area artists to entertain live while patrons eat sushi, sit at the bar, or groove on the dance floor. But like many artists whose wings grow too big for this cage, Cassanetti is moving to New York come Saturday. Friday’s event will present her spinning indie-electro, Morrissey Mike spinning ’80s sub-pop, and Keith Michaud of Summer Blanket rocking out solo. Previous events usually featured two to three artists, but in the spirit of happy endings, 12 artists will perform their craft live, including graffiti artist Loren Squier and painter Heather Tipton. A photo-video montage projection, created by Ward and Tara, will be shown outside.

Send Cassanetti off with style by appreciating local talent and getting fashionably drunk on specialty sake drinks. Kyoto’s kitchen closes at 11 p.m., but the specials, music, and art won’t stop until 2 a.m. Kyoto Sushi Sake Lounge is located at 25 NE Second Ave. in Delray Beach.
