This Gum Is Turning Me Japanese!

Most of us are a little Japanese-snack deprived. So shall we partake of a quick run-through to increase our knowledge of snacks from our Eastern neighbors? 1). Kiwi Gummi is green, gummy, and tastes like kiwi. (Unlike how watermelon Jolly Ranchers “taste like watermelon,” Kiwi Gummi is known to taste like the actual fruit.) To boot, this candy has kiwi seeds inside, creating a crunch that makes that M&M babe green with envy. 2). Tomato Pretzi are thin, brown biscuit sticks. Enough said. 3). Spicy Mentaiko Toast. Mentaiko means spicy cod roe in Japanese, which offers the translation: spicy, spicy cod roe toast. Chew on that. 4). Dark Chocolate Walky Walky (Fun!) 5). Orange Pocky (Fun!), and 6). the Almond Nori Sandwich (A sandwich… of fun!). See what else is on the sampling menu at Tate’s Japanese Snack Tasting this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The tasting is free. Find Tate’s Comics at 4566 N University Dr. in Sunrise. Call 954-748-0181, or visit tatescomics.com.
