To knock cannibalism when you’ve never been in a cannibalist’s shoes would be a tsk tsk. Who would say you wouldn’t eat human flesh if you were stranded without food during a snowstorm in the Rockies in the 1880s? Can you prove it? I don’t think so. Rather, in Cannibal! The Musical at the Promethean Theatre (3301 College Ave., Davie), we’ll hear the tale open-mindedly of our cannibalistic protagonist, Alfred Parker. In the opening scene, Alfred will rip off limbs, bite necks, snap jaws. As soon as he is about to drop a tasty tongue into his mouth, the scene will dissolve to a lawyer mimicking this in a courtroom, making Alfred appear vulgar (tsk, tsk lawyer). Alfred eats people (so what?). He bursts into song too. As Alfred awaits his execution, Polly Pry, a news reporter, will be told the cannibalistic journey of Alfred’s meeting a tribe of Indians, a singing cat, and a Cyclops complete with a pus-squirting eye. How appetizing! The musical runs until September 6. Tickets cost $25 and less. Call 786-317-7580, or visit theprometheantheatre.org.
Fridays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, 3 & 8 p.m.; Sundays, 3 p.m. Starts: Aug. 21. Continues through Sept. 6, 2009
