Sibling combos generally boast an uneven credibility scorecard – take, for instance, the puerile pop of Hanson and the Jonas Brothers or the cuddliness of the Cowsills and the Corrs. So you'll forgive us if we had doubts about the West Texas brother-sister-sister act the Iveys, especially given a name that sounds somewhat saccharine to begin with. Fortunately, their self-titled debut erases any doubts. It's chock-full of pristine melodies imbued with a hint of country-rock luster that affirms there's plenty of actual talent below the surface. Brother Arlen Ivey takes front and center with vibrant vocals and lead guitar, while sisters Jessica and Jillian augment the sound with keyboards and shared singing duties. In fact, the album is so immediately infectious and uniformly irresistible that the only possible complaint is that it contains only eight songs. Happily, an introductory gig in South Florida ought to satisfy the newly initiated and offer further proof of this talented trio's potential.
