Deal 'Em Out

Say you have a crazy dream that you’re copiloting a plane, and Jon Bon Jovi is the pilot. Soon, he gets up and asks you to grab the controls. Why would he do this? Hint: This dream isn’t revealing you were meant to be a pilot. It’s to tell you to take control of your life. But how? If you want more of a concrete answer, it’s time to hit the tarot deck. Lucky for you, Aleph the Seeker holds tarot card workshops at Unitarian Fellowship of South Florida (1812 Roosevelt Street, Hollywood) the first three Mondays and Wednesdays of each month.

You can call tarot cards a parlor trick if you want — but they can soon be a parlor trick you’ll be able to pull off yourself. “There’s nothing magical about all this,” says Aleph the Seeker, who considers a deck a very useful tool. “I don’t call myself a pyschic,” he explains, “I’m just a card reader.” During a session, it’s best if you bring your personal tarot deck — the Rider-Waite-Smith version — and have a question ready to ask. Shuffle the deck, and soon, you’ll have a few cards in front of you. On Mondays, Aleph the Seeker teaches folks how to read cards; Wednesdays are about the interpretation of the cards — the symbology and history behind the tarot deck. Each workshop starts at 7:30 p.m. and costs $5. All proceeds go to Unitarian Fellowship. Call 954-394-3342, or visit uuhollywood.com.
Mondays, Wednesdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Oct. 19. Continues through April 28, 2009
