It’s the season to be grateful. And amidst all the good cheer for family and friends, we should show thanks for neighborhood music havens like Radio-Active Records, which puts on free shows almost every weekend and gives us an opportunity to buy our tunes from an independent source instead of corporate megastores. Saturday, Radio-Active will offer another type of opportunity, though. It will host a punk-rock food drive to help Essie Reed, a community activist better known as Big Mama, in her efforts to bring turkey dinners to those in need. The proceeds (canned goods) will benefit Reed’s Team of Life organization, which hopes to distribute 20,000 Thanksgiving dinners throughout South Florida this season. Saturday’s event will include performances by Nobody’s Hero, Unit Six, To Be Hated, Enough, Angry Pudding, and Here’s to Nathan. The show is free, but come on people. Beans cost 99 cents.
