Mr. Saturday Night, on a Thursday

Call him “Billy Crys-tal” because Thursday, Billy Crystal is going to be the toast of West Palm Beach. In a big win for both the Kravis Center of the Performing Arts (701 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach) and South Florida audiences, Crystal brings his Tony-award winning one-man show, “700 Sundays,” to town this evening at 8 p.m.

The show takes us through Crystal’s rise to mega-stardom, chronicling the hero’s journey without getting mired down in details about the hero himself. The show is actually a loving tribute to the influences and people Crystal met along the way, including his talented uncle, the songwriter Milt Gabler. It’s pretty much impossible to find a bad review of the show, and it’s not everyday you get to sit within spitting distance of Miracle Max himself as he sings, tells jokes, and acts. Who needs Barbara Streisand?

If you can’t catch tonight’s show, you might still be able to catch the Oscar host-extraordinaire, as he performs through Sunday, December 6. Tickets start at $50. Call 561-833-8300 or visit kravis.org.
Thu., Dec. 3, 8 p.m.; Fri., Dec. 4, 8 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 5, 2 & 8 p.m.; Sun., Dec. 6, 5 p.m., 2009
