Lost at Sea and Home

It may be extremely easy to sit down at your local Red Lobster and gorge away on “All-You-Can-Eat Shrimp Tuesday” without a care in the world. However, if there is one thing we’ve learned recently from shows like Deadliest Catch, it’s that the life of a commercial fisherman is really hard work. Despite being totally badass on the water, what we don’t see is the salty dog’s challenges at home.

Sins of the Mother, a new play from famed playwright Israel Horovitz (fun fact: He is Adam “Beastie Boy” Horovitz’s father), takes place in a small fishing village, where a mystery threatens to expose the tragedy of a families’ past. Sins is a compelling drama about revenge and forgiveness and the struggle to understand the difference. So maybe the next time you order the half-pound lobster with butter sauce, you’ll appreciate who actually caught it a little more.

Sins of the Mother debuts tonight at 8 and runs through March 7 at the Florida Stage (262 S. Ocean Blvd., Manalapan.) Tickets start at $38 depending on the date. Call 561-585-3433 for tickets and showtimes, or visit floridastage.org.
Wednesdays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: Jan. 27. Continues through March 7, 2010
