Words and Action

Minneapolis’ Toki Wright, who was raised Buddhist, developed an awareness of the world that influenced his work as a hip-hop emcee, community activist, and world traveler. This awareness is reflected in his debut album, A Different Mirror, notably on songs like the socio-political anthem “State of Emergency.” Wright mixes the message and the music together in a way that’s equal parts inspirational and infectious. Whether he’s working the crowd at Coachella or with children in war-torn Uganda, Wright’s audience is better off for the experience.

Toki Wright joins Protoman, Jabrjaw & DJ Dee Dubbs, and DJ Cadet Friday at 9:30 p.m. at Propaganda (6 S. J St., Lake Worth). Reps from Gnar Wear will be on hand with special giveaways. Tickets cost $12 to $15 for age 21 and up. Call 561-547-7273 or visit propagandalw.com.
Fri., Feb. 19, 9:30 p.m., 2010
