A Full House (or an Empty Bank Account)

If you have no idea what a “$500+$50 buy-in” means, you haven’t played a game of poker that can truly hurt your bank account — or truly increase it. A “$500+$50 buy-in” means that $500 goes to the prize pool and $50 goes to the tournament organizers: You’re dishing out a steep $550 to get the games started. This is the case at the Florida Million Poker Tournament: There will be satellites and super satellites — but all that this poker talk means is that, by the end, there will be a guaranteed minimum prize pool of $500,000. The Florida Million tournament will be played in two stages. The first stage, called “Day One,” will be played at six locations through March. Locally, players can compete at noon on Sunday and March 14 at the Big Easy Poker Room located at the Mardi Gras Casino, 831 N. Federal Highway in Hallandale Beach. Play will be paused when the field is cut down to the top 10 percent, and the winnings will be sent on to the final round of playing scheduled for April 10 at the Derby Lane Poker Room in St. Petersburg. Sun., March 7, noon; Sun., March 14, 2010
