For the past 12 years, Miami International Fashion Week has welcomed the industry’s elite to watch local and international designers display their wares. Thursday, the runway shows open to nonindustry folk, starting with the Swimwear and Miami Style showcases. They start at 7:30 and 9 p.m., respectively, at the Shops at Midtown (3401 N. Miami Ave., Miami).
After gawking at all those waifs with hipbones protruding from itty-bitty swimsuits, you’ll likely need a stiff drink. At 11 p.m., you can have cocktails at Fashion Week’s VIP Opening Night Party at SET Nightclub (320 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach). Years ago, when SET was known as Bar Room, stars like Madonna and Dennis Hopper kicked back in the superexclusive VIP room. But you can have your own elite moment at the Fashion Week party, which features plenty of couture junkies and music by resident DJs Sub Zero, Konflikt, and Damaged Goods.
