Most humans have no business writing autobiographic, one-man plays. Sure, that time you leaked a truly musical fart during a religious ceremony is a fun anecdote, but it isn’t likely to pack the seats — especially the front few rows.
But where one escape tale fails, another succeeds, like Debra Ehrhardt’s hilarious Bond-girl play Jamaica, Farewell, which plays 8 p.m. Saturday at Miramar Cultural Center (2300 Civic Center Place in Miramar). Not only has she lived a terribly exciting life, but she’s got the skills to whip it all up into charmingly funny, one-woman to-do. While growing up, Ehrhardt lusted after American life. When political turmoil struck her island, those escape fantasies became a necessary reality — but getting to America? Well, that’s going to involve a couple acts, a few goats, a CIA agent, a duffle bag of cash, romance, a burning head of hair, and a whole lot of charm. Tickets cost $32 to $37.
