'Why Did I Get Married Too?' Better Question: Why Did Tyler Perry Make This Movie?

Tyler Perry follows up his best film, 2007’s Why Did I Get Married?, with his worst. This time, the four couples in various states of marital discord vacation not in Colorado but in the Bahamas — mainly so that Michael Jai White’s Marcus can remain shirtless — before resuming their buppie lives in Atlanta (the WDIGM films are the only ones in the Perry oeuvre that openly celebrate, rather than vilify, the bourgeoisie).

Where the original succeeded as an honest attempt to explore real adult problems within a fairly taut structure, the sequel stretches out its interminable 121 minutes — the amount of time it usually takes the impresario to release a new film — with endless reaction shots before the distended plot is resolved by shamefully lazy (even by Perry’s standards) interventions.

Fans of Janet Jackson, playing a psychologist married to Malik Yoba, the ensemble’s most talented performer, may get some insight into how she worked through her grief after Michael’s death (onscreen, a golf club comes in handy); I chuckled occasionally at the Madea-like outbursts of Tasha Smith’s virago: “Shove that down your fat-ass throat!” What’s not funny: Weird homophobic eruptions, like a flaming queen jumping out of a cake to “It’s Raining Men” as a feuding Jackson says to Yoba, “If you wanna be a bitch, there’s your man.”

It's obvious you're just an old, hateful, spiteful, wrinkly bitch. I would say why would waste your community college degree earning time on writing anything on the movie, since you only watched it to be spiteful, but the question segues the answer immediately. So, I guess you go to movies, upset that you left your multiple of cats without water, leave, write crappy 'reviews' and then VOILA! Someone suddenly had the credentials to call something pointless. I just have to say, what was the point of this and the 'Death at a Funeral' tripe, you call an article? I am dying to know since, I plan on study journalism. I understand everyone with an asshole has the right to their own opinion, but on every single movie you review, you just sound like an old bitter bitch who misses the mild excitement of 'Murder She Wrote' and wants every movie to be a 'Steel Magnolia'. And it's obvious you go to movies that you HATE on purpose. Do something useful in you ancient, octogenarian life and go watch a movie you THINK you'll like and review. Because, guess what? I hate seafood. I'm not going to to Red Lobster, eat a crab salad and go online about how the lobster sucks.

I agree with all of the above comments. Just because you do not understand our culture, and life situations does not give you the right to criticize this wonderful movie. It makes more since to me than someone making a movie about dying from mc donalds aka Super size me! Janet gave her best, so did Tyler and the rest of the cast!! Please give credit when it is due!

Wow writer you have more bias in your gibberish than a toilet that literally can't swallow the turds you apparently held in! The bottom line is there’s a message in the movie and the people that watched WDIGM2 in its entirety got the message whether you feel Mr. Perry delivered it or not!! It's so unfortunate that critics like you even have a job or an opinion to criticize more than they do anything else. Not one of Tyler Perry's movies has ever had positive feedback from any of you and that in itself speaks volumes. Shut the hell UP already! If you paid attention, the more you try to down TP, the higher he moves upward. Tyler Perry’s movie-goers & followers will always support him.

Wow it looks like just because it was all about blacks it wasnt worth the credit it deserve but make a movie bout a man and a dog lost in the freak in woods and it get a Oscar.Woooow......

I have always loved and supported Tyler's movies. I was right there with his story line until the end. I needed the couples to have closure and none of the couples resolved any of their issues. Somewhere between the ashes in the balloon and Janet(Patricia) meeting a new man, the couples needed to resolve and communicate with one another. So, at the end I was disappointed.

I thought it was awesome! Better than the first. I thought it was funny and thought provoking. Totally entertaining. 30 million dollars in one weekend-someone else thought so too :-)

I enjoyed the movie and think that Janet Jackson gave her best performance in a movie, so far - she was awesome, as were Jill Scott and Tasha Smith. At the end, I wanted more, so I hope that there will be a part 3.

By the looks of it, you don't particularly care for Tyler Perry movies, so I'm not sure why you bother seeing them. No, they're not always award winning, life changing movies. But they're not as terrible as you make them seem. If anything, seeing them in the theater is what can kill it. Serious moments ruined by ignorant/uncomfortable laughing. Over-dramatized acting-- at some points, but again, these actors aren't exactly the best. But they do the job.
