Learn to Act

Rising Action Theatre is a stage in a strip mall. But it’s got pizzazz. Off Oakland Park Boulevard, the little joint’s most recent production is a tripped-out remake of Reefer Madness, complete with baby-selling and bloody murder and hazy-green lighting. And last year, it staged Flora the Red Menace, which premiered in 1965 and gave Liza Minelli her start, playing a Depression-era commie. Since Rising Action’s a gay establishment, it often grapples with gay subjects — covering over the years everything from Judy Garland to the gay victims of Hitler.
