The Burning Ballroom From Hell

Dancing With the Stars pulled off a coup when it got Tom Delay, the former Texan Republican majority leader who was indicted for conspiracy, to compete with some butt-shaking cha-cha numbers — like an old gay man ecstatic over coming out of the closet.

Unfortunately, Delay recently quit the show and won’t be among the dance stars performing in Burn the Floor, a Broadway show stopping at the Kravis Center. He will be missed. Burn the Floor is a Latin, cha-cha, samba, salsa, waltz, tango, quickstep, swing, and jive bonanza. It’s been running at the Longacre Theatre on Broadway for a seven-month season, and it’s toured more than 30 countries. The dancers are the most hard-core of the professionals — some were forged in the fires of So You Think You Can Dance, but it predates those reality shows. This is a ballroom on steroids and adrenaline shots — not to mention there will be muscular exposed male torsos and toned female thighs galore.

Burn the Floor performs at 2 and 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Kravis Center (701 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach). More performances are scheduled through Sunday. Tickets cost $25 to $68. Call 561-833-8300, or visit kravis.org.
Wed., May 5, 2 & 8 p.m.; Thu., May 6; Fri., May 7; Sat., May 8; Sun., May 9, 2010
