Meet the Mets, Beat the Mets

This is the first time this season the Marlins greet the Mets — and if you need any additional encouragement to head over to Sun Life Stadium besides the chance to berate and belittle the scores of New York transplants and phonies, the Fish have got you covered. Both weekend games feature giveaways: Hanley Ramirez figurines on Friday night and Marlins maracas on Saturday.

But maracas and figurines aren’t the only thing on fans’ minds: They have begun to clamor for Mike Stanton, who some see as the next Miguel Cabrera. The current outfielders, Cameron Maybin (who came to the Marlins in trade for Cabrera), Chris Coghlan, and Cody Ross, have done little to lessen the anticipation. The Marlin’s faithful will have to wait for summertime, as notoriously frugal management plans to keep Stanton down for financial reasons. Hey, how else are they going to pay for all those giveaways? First pitch of the four-game set is at 7:10 p.m. Thursday at Sun Life Stadium (2267 Dan Marino Blvd., Miami Gardens). Tickets start at only $9. Call 877-Marlins, or visit florida.marlins.mlb.com.
