Inspired by Nature: Beyond Functionis a sculptural exhibit of two local artists. Bob Bagley of Parkland has spent 20 years building and restoring pipe organs a highly specialized pursuit thats led him to create whimsical wood sculptures that look like warped trees or maybe furniture in a Hobbits house. Jan Kolenda, the other local artist, has a similar aesthetic: Her Bougainvillea Teapot, for instance, is a frightening chunk of a tree trunk, with thorned spouts, that you might find in a canteen in hell. Both artists appear to like to transform functional things, like teapots, into growths from a fairy-tale forest.
Also on display is Parthenon photography by Peter Yalanis. Both exhibits run until August 21. The museum opens Monday through Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Coral Springs Museum of Art (2855 Coral Springs Drive, Coral Springs). Admission costs $5 or less. Call 954-340-5000, or visit csmart.org.
