Black Weather Shaman to Perform at Propaganda

Perhaps the spookiest thing ever to crawl out of the swamp and onto a local stage, Black Weather Shaman has been excreting its weird, folky voodoo into dim-lit corners of South Florida since last July. In the short time that has passed, the rugged bunch has earned itself a devoted following for its offbeat approach to performing Americana-style music.

Just about any of its songs could be interpreted by an old-timer with a banjo and please a crowd at a down-home family cookout. But when filtered through the mind of Cecil Lundsford and his crooning cronies, the songs become deranged, unsettling, spider-like creatures that tap, screech, howl, and stick to sweaty-faced onlookers at shows.

When Black Weather Shaman is onstage, it's impossible to know just what is coming. The vibe is that of a freak show performed for the Skunk Ape, AKA the foul-smelling mythical beast. Pants drop, fire is blown, instruments are swapped, and cigarettes are chewed. All the while, the band remains present and intently focused. This past May, Black Weather Shaman took its show on the road to Central and North Florida and was reportedly well-received. Though the band has not released any recordings thus far, it is in the studio now and plans to release two EPs and an EP/LP by the end of this year.
