Stanton to the Rescue?

Oh, Marlins bullpen, you’re not satisfied with yourself, and that’s why you have finally called up your top prospect, Mike Stanton. Sure, he’s not a relief pitcher, but no matter. Because the best way to keep this bullpen from blowing a lead, which it has been doing too much of late, is to put up a crapload of runs, and Stanton is capable of just that. Heralded as one of the nation’s best prospects, Stanton hit .311 with 21 home runs and 52 RBI for Jacksonville this season. He’s a patient hitter with power, has good speed, and is a solid defensive player. Can Stanton save the Fish? Who knows? One thing’s for sure, he’s going to have to kill it against the Rays first, when he and the Marlins take on the Tampa Bay Rays in an interleague series Friday to Sunday at Sun Life Stadium (2269 Dan Marino Blvd., Miami Gardens). First pitch is at 7:10, and tickets start at $9. Visit Florida.marlins.mlb.com.
Fri., June 18, 7:10 p.m.; Sat., June 19; Sun., June 20, 2010
